Numbers start at typical defaults — change anything. Every result states the inputs and assumptions used.

Applied once to each material quantity, then rounded up to the orderable increment.

Product assumptions — editable8

Sheet sizes, coverage rates, bundle counts, bag yield and similar come from the product you are buying. Change any of them to match your supplier — whatever you set is shown again with the result.

Standard sheets are 8, 10, 12 or 14 ft long.

Standard sheets are 4 ft wide (also sold in 54 in widths).

About 32 screws per 4 × 8 sheet at 12 in centres on studs, 8 in on ceilings.

Rule of thumb: one 500 ft roll of tape per 1,000 sq ft of board.

All three coats — a common field rate is 1 gallon per 80 sq ft. Check your product's coverage.

What this calculator does

  • •Wall area = wall length × wall height
  • •Ceiling area = ceiling length × ceiling width
  • •Board area = wall area + ceiling area − openings
  • •Sheets = board area ÷ (sheet length × sheet width)
  • •Screws (lb) = sheets × screws per sheet ÷ screws per pound
  • •Tape rolls = board area ÷ board area per roll
  • •Joint compound (gal) = board area ÷ board area per gallon; containers = gallons ÷ container size
Deterministic by design: no AI, no lookups, no network calls — the same inputs always give the same numbers. Product values such as coverage rates and bundle counts are editable and shown with the result.
