Numbers start at typical defaults — change anything. Every result states the inputs and assumptions used.

2 extra studs are added per corner.

Applied once to each material quantity, then rounded up to the orderable increment.

Product assumptions — editable5

Sheet sizes, coverage rates, bundle counts, bag yield and similar come from the product you are buying. Change any of them to match your supplier — whatever you set is shown again with the result.

Two jack studs plus one support stud is the usual allowance per opening.

Allows the header to bear past each side of the opening.

Enter your measurements and press "Calculate materials" to see the calculated quantity, waste-adjusted quantity and recommended order quantity.

What this calculator does

  • •Studs along the run = ⌈(wall length × 12) ÷ spacing⌉ + 1
  • •Studs = studs along the run + (corners × 2) + openings × (studs per opening + cripples per opening)
  • •Plate linear ft = wall length × (2 top + 1 bottom) for a double top plate, or × (1 + 1) for single
  • •Plate pieces = plate linear ft ÷ plate stock length
  • •Headers = openings × 2 plies × (opening width + extra length), ordered at header stock length
  • •Blocking = wall length × rows of blocking
Deterministic by design: no AI, no lookups, no network calls — the same inputs always give the same numbers. Product values such as coverage rates and bundle counts are editable and shown with the result.
